Deloitte | 3D Animation

Among the most inspiring projects of our 2025 was this exciting commission from the Nice Wach studio. Through the agency Clic2View, we were tasked with creating a video for Deloitte's annual conference for partners in Southeast Asia.

Best of all, the style guidelines came straight from Deloitte's top brass: it had to be anime! But even better—it had to be a basketball game.

At FIEL®, we'd already dabbled in bringing that sport to life in 3D. Fate blessed us with a challenge that was both arduous and wonderful in equal measure.

Let's get to work—this project is a three-pointer from half-court!

We immediately grabbed pen and paper to sketch out the script provided by the agency.

Since we at FIEL® love both Japanese and American art, we tried a hybrid of manga and comics to best express the video's style and narrative rhythm.

(But the assignment took an unexpected turn: the screen on which the video would be projected was 24 m wide by 4 m high! In other words, an ultra-widescreen format. Interestingly, this happened before a very similar format became a trend on Instagram.)

As is sometimes the case, we had to get a head start.

The client needed assurances about the style we could achieve—examples that would show what the final video would look like. However, we didn't have much time to spare. It was a massive challenge!

At first (and even though it strayed a bit from the original references), we toyed with the idea of adopting a style that was also painterly, but further removed from the toon shader. The tests, as mentioned, were done quickly. (We'll definitely try to apply and refine that style at some point in the future.)

Let's take a look at those style tests:

Now, let's take a look at the creative process that began in parallel with the previous research.

We wanted our own unique aesthetic and universe, so we had to sketch and map out the world we imagined as much as possible. The tests focused on mastering aspects such as anatomical proportions, facial features, and, above all, the fusion of comic and anime styles.

We explored ethnic features and sought to simplify them. For this project, we concluded that the characters' profiles should, naturally, represent the ethnic type of Southeast Asia.

The creative journey took us from a style faithful to the characteristic features of the geographic region to a much more anime-inspired tone and expression.

After successive iterations, we found the key to guiding the 3D modeling and thus refining the features that would later become the final ones.

But the process was still in its early stages.

We still had to carefully work through new modeling stages and the remaining steps of texturing, shading, rigging, and… of course! The long-awaited animation tests.

That's right… once again, six hands behind the technical details!

Here's a quick look at some of the processes (and also a fun example of how not everything we see is what it seems).

As usual, we opted for visual economy. There was no need to overload the models with properties or additional elements.

Here are some of the outfits:

It's tempting to print these out in resin or filament to display them on the studio desks…

Here's a brief look at the compositing journey for this video (and how the use of rim lighting really enhances the image!).

Each shot had roughly the same number of layers or more (not to mention effects, adjustments, filters, etc.). Thank you, beloved EXR format!

As is now tradition, we're sharing with you a selection of stills from the video.

We also had to prepare a video for the moments leading up to the event.

The screen would play a loop of footage of the empty stadium as a prelude to what was to follow.

But that's not all!

After the project was completed, we received a new request: to adapt the ultra-wide-screen video to a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Honestly, we were a little worried about how it would turn out… What do you think?

From what we heard, the audience was very pleased...

And nothing makes us happier!
